It served the association well for nearly a decade - but times change, riders evolve, and technology moves forward. A True Original That Keeps Innovating
Founded in the mid-1990s by legendary Texas horsemen Jack Brainard and Roger Blackmon, Stock Horse of Texas is the oldest versatile stock horse association in the country—a true pioneer that continues to lead the way. For 30 years, SHTX has been dedicated to helping riders of all experience levels develop and compete on functional, well-broke stock horses in a welcoming, affordable, family-friendly environment.
The association focuses on education through year-round clinics that emphasize creating a pleasurable, versatile riding horse, paired with exciting shows featuring the four core stock horse disciplines:
- Reining
- Working Cow Horse
- Stock Horse Pleasure
- Stock Horse Trail
Many events also include Ranch Cutting, and with divisions tailored to every skill level—from beginners to seasoned competitors—riders can always show alongside others of similar ability and experience.
